BEFORE You Sign an Agreement to Update Your Kitchen
or Bathrooms
Follow These Simple Steps to Check References
You have
probably heard someone say: “no one will give a bad
reference”.
What if you got a “ho hum” reference or maybe the
giver was not too enthusiastic? That should make you
wonder.
We understand that a home improvement project like
remodeling your kitchen or updating your bathrooms
is a big investment and may also be the fulfillment
of your dream.
Even small remodeling contractors complete 25
projects every couple of years. Coming up with 3
good references shouldn’t be that hard.
But is 3 references really a sign of consistently
high quality work?
We don’t believe it is.
Here is a better strategy...
-
Ask for 15
references from the last 2 years including the
last 3 projects that they completed.
-
Call each reference
and ask 5 to 8 questions. We have included some
suggested questions for your consideration at
the bottom of this page.
This may
seem like a pain but it will be a lot less painful
than hiring the wrong contractor and only finding
that out after your home is torn up.
Wes, Wayne and Russ have over 55 years of experience
building and remodeling homes in Central Florida.
They worked together for over 15 years at a national
homebuilding company before starting ACS. While they
were at their previous company, they were the
recipients of many awards including the quality
award for construction for 3 consecutive years.
We provide a list of over 20 references and we want
you to call as many as you like.
Feel free to ask our references about timeliness,
adherence to the agreement, clean up or anything
else you would like. We want you to become the next
client that is added to our reference list.
A Simple Approach
to Check the References of
Any Design Build, Home Improvement or Home
Remodeling Contractor
The
questions below were created by Rivers of Revenue
LLC, a company that has spent years advising and
educating both homeowners and residential
contractors on professional business practices for
almost 10 years.
These questions will give you a lot of insight about
the contractor’s professionalism, how well they
stuck to the agreement and if they finished on time.
If you have a prepared list this will go much
smoother.
Suggested questions you may want to ask:
-
What project did
they do for you and when did they do it?
-
Did they start on
the date they promised?
-
Did they leave your
home in satisfactory condition each day?
-
How did the final
amount you paid compare to the original price?
-
How often did they
provide you with a complete update on progress?
-
How were issues
handled during the project?
-
How did they treat
you and other members of your family?
-
Have you recommended
them to anyone else?
-
Why did you choose
them in the first place?
Add any
other questions that are important to you to this
list.
They also suggest that you ask for business
references from the contractor’s bank and at least 3
suppliers. Many contractors have had financial
problems in the last 3 to 5 years so checking on
their credit standing is a good idea.

If you want to
build a new home, do
an addition
for extra space,
or simply improve the layout
and functionality
of your home by renovating your kitchen,
bathrooms, master bedroom, breakfast room, lanai or
pool area, we can
help make your dream a reality.
All
those years of experience have taught us how
important it is to do things right the first time.
There is plenty of competition in our business and
we appreciate the opportunity to earn your business
and your trust. We realize what it takes to deliver
consistent, quality results that eliminate many of
the common headaches and frustrations people have
with remodeling projects.
We are confident that our references will tell you
that we do what we say we will do, when we say we
will do it and for the price we said.
